FROM WHERE I STAND

Neighborhood Memory Map

A Site-Specific Participatory Installation: Reconstructing a Neighborhood Map Solely Through the Memories of Its Residents.

״When I was a child, every time I was about to go to a new place, my father would draw me a small road map. A white piece of paper, drawn on with a blue pen in his distinct style, showing the route with little drawings of landmarks along the way.

Just before I left the house, this small ritual would unfold: a blank sheet transforming into a depiction of a place. There was something deeply personal about these maps. they were a reflection of how my father remembered things.

Today, I have a digital map at my fingertips. I no longer stop to ask for directions or rely on my father's drawings. The maps I use now don’t tell me that there once was a fire station at this intersection, that behind the mailboxes lies Pik the hedgehog’s resting place, or that from just the right angle, this building seems to float in the air.״

From Where I Stand is a subjective mapping project, filled with diverse voices and perspectives. It’s an invitation to discover a neighborhood through the eyes of its residents.

In 2019, a map was created at the "Tabula Rasa" festival in the Ramat Israel-Bitzaron neighborhood of Tel Aviv.

In 2024, a map was drawn at the Ramat Eliyahu Art Festival in Rishon LeZion.
